EXTRACURRICULAR ELIGIBILITY POLICY

Permission to represent the school in any activity is a privilege rather than a right. Academic achievement and good school citizenship are necessary for participation in any extracurricular activity. Teachers recognizing a participant's deficiency (failing grade or working well below potential) will contact the coach or advisor of that activity. The coach or advisor will strongly encourage the correction of the deficiency by the participant. If, within a reasonable amount of time determined by the teacher, there is a continued negligence of responsibility, the teacher will submit to the principal a written report of the complaint. Theprincipal may require a conference with the student, the student's parents or guardians, and the student's counselor to reinforce the need for correction. If the extracurricular participant receives two (2) or more failures (F) at the end of a marking period, he or she is ineligible to participate according to the following guidelines:

1. The extracurricular participant will be declared ineligible for two (2) weeks subject to reinstatement if academic standing has shown improvement after the allotted time.

2. Eligibility will be determined on a week-to-week basis for the remainder of the marking period.

3. Eligibility for the first marking period is determined by the final grades for the last grading period of the previous school year.

4. Athletic eligibility is also determined by the PIAA by-laws.

5. Students applying for positions on student council, class officers, or yearbook editors must maintain an overall average of 70% with no failures. These students must have previously displayed good citizenship characteristics and continue to display these characteristics during their terms in office. Failure to do so should be directly reported to the administration who will then take necessary action.
