High School Advisory Board
High School's Family & Consumer Science Classes
The Family & Consumer Science classes help to bridge the
gap between the cafeteria and high school students. The classes meet
with cafeteria personnel at least 4 times a school year. They discuss
the 5 components to a school lunch, the nutritional value of foods, food
labels, and "plate appeal". They also help the cafeteria develop new
food dishes and run taste tests before the new dish is served for lunch.
The Family and Consumer Science classes are
responsible for the annual "Nutrition Fair" presented to the elementary
students at the end of the school year. Students from the classes work
in groups on a variety of topics related to nutrition. Their tables
consist of food tasting, games, and specific information on making
healthy choices. The elementary students look forward to the fair every
year!
