Nancy Rucker Wallis Memorial Scholarship

The Nancy Rucker Wallis Memorial Scholarship has been established to honor the memory of Nancy Wallis - wife, mother, and nurse whose empathy and compassion led her to help those in her local community and beyond. The scholarship will recognize a Forest City Regional High School senior who will be pursuing a degree in the medical field. The student must be in good academic standing (85% GPA or greater) and be able to demonstrate empathy and consideration for others. One $1,000 scholarship will be chosen by Nancy's family to be awarded at Class Night.

Applicants must complete this form and attach the required information. Applications should be submitted to Mrs. Carrie Kemmerer before the deadline.

Requirements:

  • Completed application form
  • Two letters of recommendation from teachers/ coaches/work supervisors
  • Current high school transcript
  • A list of community/ school extracurricular activities
  • Letter of acceptance to a nursing/medical program

 


Gretchen Hayes Scholarship

The Gretchen Hayes Memorial Scholarship Fund will be offering a scholarship in remembrance of Mrs. Hayes to a graduating senior of Forest City Regional High School.  The scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student who approaches life with optimism, a love of learning, and a desire to make the world a better place; all qualities Mrs. Hayes shared with the students of Forest City Regional during her time here and with students around the country during her over 40 years in education.

 


VFW Walter Paciga Scholarship

Please submit a personal resume that includes High School transcript, letters of recommendation, any certificates of appreciation or commendation you have received and a copy of a letter of acceptance to college or other higher levels of education. Items especially helpful for the committee and should be included in this packet are letters from High School Principals, Guidance Counselors, Teachers, Church Pastors, Civic Leaders etc.


Erin Jessica Moreken Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship was established by the Erin Jessica Moreken Drug & Alcohol Treatment Fund, Inc. in 2014.  It was created to assist a graduating senior who has a financial need and is scheduled to graduate in June of the current school year. Application can be found under the Resource Files.


Nancey & William Lange Memorial Scholarship

The Nancey & William Lange Memorial Scholarship is open to any High School Senior who resides in Lackawanna County and plans to pursue a curriculum in the environmental field. Please see the application in the Resources File. The due date for this is May 10, 2024.  


Mike Munchak Scholarship Updated

The 2024 Mike Munchak Scholarship has extended their due date. The new date is April 28, 2024. Please see application in the Resources File. 


Harford Agricultural Society Scholarship

  1. Be a High School Graduate
  2. Be currently admitted to a school of advanced education, i.e. college or university
  3. Submit a completed application, essay which includes Harford Fair involvement, and TWO letters of recommendation to:

Thomas J. Butler Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas J. Butler Memorial Scholarship assists one student graduating from Forest City Regional High School furthering their college education. Tom Butler was a pillar in the Forest City community. He was a man that would help another out in their time of need and not ask for anything in return. It is our hope that this scholarship in the amount of $500 will help a deserving student begin their college education. The application can be found in the Resources File.


Lackawanna County Republican Women Scholarship

Eligible college bound female seniors must reside in Lackawanna County, have at least a 3.0 GPA and show an interest in governmental affairs or politics and be registered Republican if age 18 or older. The application can be found in the Resources File. 


Forest City Rotary Scholarship

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The goal of this local scholarship: The graduating senior should have demonstrated ambition and self-drive as evidenced by community service or work-related activities. The student will have excelled in volunteering/service with the goal of helping others. The application can be found in the Resources File. 


Mark Graziado Memorial Scholarship

The Wayne County Democratic Committee is pleased to announce the first Mark Graziadio Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, in the amount of $1000, has been established in the memory of Mark Graziado, past Chairperson of the Wayne County Democratic Committee. Mark was deeply committed to the ideals which shaped the United States of America and devoted much of his life to service in our local community. Wayne County residents owe a debt of gratitude to Mark for his tireless efforts. We hope that this scholarship inspires community activism in Wayne county. The successful applicant will complete a short essay on civic engagement (approximately 500 words) and be able to verify the following:

  • Wayne County, PA resident
  • High school senior graduating in June 2024
  • Acceptance into a post-secondary educational program 

Submission deadline is May 1, 2024.  The recipient and his or her school will be notified May 15, 2024.

Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship

Laurel Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, awards three $500 scholarships to high school seniors in the local communities who exemplify good citizenship and high moral character; one to a student at Forest City, one to a student at Wayne Highlands, and one to a student at Western Wayne. The application can be found under Resources. 


Wayne County Human Resources Scholarship

The Human Resources Foundation is offering five $1000 scholarships to eligible high school seniors. Eligible students will reside and attend high school in  Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike or Monroe Counties. He/she will be planning to pursue a career in Human Services, Health Care, Vo-Tech, social Work or Special Education. The application is attached.

 


Road to Safety Scholarship

At Metzger Wickersham personal injury law firm, we are committed to promoting education and awareness about safe driving through community outreach. We would like to remind you of our annual Road to Safety Scholarship Contest, which encourages young drivers to get involved in spreading the message to keep our roads safe.

This year’s contest rules vary slightly from past years. We are no longer accepting written essays. The contest is now geared more towards audio/visual projects. It may be of particular interest to students who plan to study creative fields such as video production or graphic design; however, this type of anticipated major is not a mandatory requirement to enter.

Entry forms are available for download at arrivealivepa.com. Please feel free to post the information on your website and make copies of the contest materials for distribution to your senior class. The deadline for entries is April 15, 2024.


Wayne County Fair Scholarship

This scholarship is available to any High School Senior that worked, volunteered or exhibited at the Wayne County Fair within the last three out of four years. The application can be found in the Resource File. 


Wayne County Walk of Honor Scholarship

This scholarship is for any High School Senior who has a family that is or was a veteran or service person. The application can be found in the Resource File. 


The Fraternal Order of Police Scholarship

The Fraternal Order of Police is awarding two $500 scholarships to two eligible high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in the Criminal Justice Field. The application can be found in the Resource File.

Mask and Hammer Drama Club Scholarship

The Forest City Regional Mask and Hammer Drama Club will sponsor a $200 scholarship to qualifying applicants. The maximum number of scholarships will be determined by the amount of available funds. All students who meet the following criteria are encourage to apply:

  • All applicants must be a 12th grade student who is a member of the drama club in good standing. 
  • All applicants must have been a member of the drama club for either two full school years OR four total performances during their 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years.
  • All applicants must be attending a college, university, trade school or any other institute of furthering education in their chosen field of study. 

Endless Mountains Community Foundation Scholarships

The attachment provides information on 18 scholarships that are available through the Endless Mountains Community Foundation. All applications are to be completed online at the Community Foundations website: https://community-foundation.org/scholarships/

Hagan Scholarship Foundation

The Hagan Scholarship is a life-changing scholarship. It provides up to $7500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters.

Blair E. Caboot Memorial Scholarship

Eligible applicants must attend school in one of the following counties: Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Sullivan, Wayne, Wyoming.

Application, transcript and recommendation letter from one of the student’s mathematics teachers are required.

The application window is open from September 1, 2023 through March 1, 2024. The scholarship recipient will be notified by early April 2024.

David M. Cavalieri Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to honor the memory of David M. Cavalieri, a 2012 graduate of Forest City Regional High School.  He tragically lost his life in a car accident in 2016.  David was a kind, compassionate, helpful young man who brightened every room that he entered.  He could often be found helping others both in and out of the classroom.  He was an avid athlete, participating in basketball, soccer, volleyball, and snowboarding both in and out of school.

The scholarship is being offered to Forest City Regional senior students that intend to pursue post-secondary education.  Potential recipients need be active athletes in at least two (2) varsity sports.  They must be in good academic standing (80% GPA or greater) and be able to show evidence of being compassionate and kind to others.   

Scholarship(s) of two thousand dollars ($2,500) will be presented annually at Forest City Regional High School’s Class Night.  One or more scholarships will be awarded each year based upon the eligibility of the applicants.    Applicants must complete the information below and submit this form with the additional requirements directly to Mr. Daniel Nebzydoski at Forest City Regional High School by May 1st of the school year. 

Requirements:

  • Completed application form
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from current or former coaches attesting to the applicant’s sportsmanship.  These letters should focus on athletic performance and attendance at games and practices.  In addition, the coach should comment on the applicant’s desire to assist younger team members.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from current or former teachers, mentors, co-workers, or community members attesting to the applicant’s character.  These letters should focus on the applicant’s compassion, kindness, and helpfulness.
  • Current transcript
  • Letter of acceptance to a post-secondary educational institution

 


Jordan Underwood Memorial Scholarship

Requirements:    Enrollment in a two (2) or four (4) year college campus

                             Program majoring in Sports Communication or

                             Health/Medical Field.

                             GPA – 88 or Higher

                             Two (2) paragraph essay stating:

                            “Why you feel you should receive Jordan’s scholarship?”


Sam Rowe III Memorial Scholarship

Two $500.00 scholarships, sponsored by Sam’s family, will be awarded in memory of Sam Rowe III to students who intend to pursue a career in a medical field.   The scholarships are intended for students who have a commitment to a medical career and will not be awarded solely on academic record.  The application below and the required attachments are to be submitted to the Counseling Office no later than Wednesday, May 15, 2024.  All applications with attachments will be forwarded to a committee selected by the sponsors.  The decision of the committee is final.


 

Joseph W. Nebzydoski "Pay It Forward" Scholarship

Applicant Criteria: A graduating senior of Forest City Regional School District

A senior student that has donated a minimum of 30 hours of voluntary community service to either his/her school, fire department, ambulance, church, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc. or other non-profit agency outside of the school day and NOT part of another project (graduation project, Eagle Scout project, 4-H project, etc.).

It is recommended that the scholarship applicant be enrolled in a college or trade school after graduation, but it is not a requirement. The applicant should have an idea of their contributing role to society after graduation.

In addition to completing the attached application, the applicant should attach an official high school transcript, a copy of his/her high school attendance record, a letter of reference from someone in authority at the non-profit agency attesting to his/her hours of volunteerism, and another letter from someone benefiting from his/her acts of volunteerism.


 

 

The Northern Tier Hardwood Association Community Forests Scholarship

The Northern Tier Hardwood Association Community Forests Scholarship is offered to all High School Seniors in the nine-county area of Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne, and Wyoming counties or student members of NTHA. To qualify for the $1500 scholarship, students must complete the following application, providing as much detail as possible, and submit it to: Northern Tier Hardwood Association, PO Box 7, Tunkhannock, PA 18657. One Community Forests Scholarship will be awarded each year.  

Deadline for applications is April 30 of each year. In addition, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be accepted to a Community/Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, or related field of study
  • Be accepted to a Technical School, College or University
  • Provide 3 references, including one outside of school
  • Provide proof of acceptance, when received

NTHA Community Forests Scholarship Application for High School Seniors


Mike Chesna Scholarship

The Fall Music Festival Scholarship will be awarded each year by the Fall Music Festival committee to one graduating senior from Forest City Regional High School, Honesdale High School, Wallenpaupack Area High School, and Western Wayne High School who exhibits a passion for the power of music and the use of that passion to help lead and improve the welfare of the community in which they reside.

 

Teachers from each school shall nominate 1 student to apply for the scholarship from each of the following four areas: Band, Chorus, Theater Arts & Visual Arts.

 

Students should complete the attached application. Applications should be postmarked no later than: April 20, 2024, and sent to:

The Fall Music Festival Committee will select 1 student from each school district to receive the scholarship. A one-time $1,000 scholarship will be provided to each of the winners.

Interested applicants should meet the following criteria which is required to be addressed in the application.

 

  • Use of scholarship: awards must be used by the grantee to further their education at an institution of higher learning that grants at minimum an associate’s degree.
  • Financial need: Candidates shall demonstrate a basic need for the award to supplement funds earmarked for higher education. Extra consideration will be given to candidates who in addition to demonstrating financial need, maintain some form of employment to raise money for higher education purposes.
  • Academic achievement: Candidates must be in good academic standing as of graduation.
  • Participation in extracurricular activities: Applicants should demonstrate an interest in school activities beyond academics, in or out of the school environment.
  • Extent of community involvement: Candidates shall be present in their community, demonstrating a spirit of volunteerism in endeavors that enrich their local community. Examples include participation in charitable efforts, volunteer services and church or youth groups.
  • Candidates shall submit an essay of 400 words or less explaining how the arts have impacted the candidate’s life, and how sharing this impact has improved the general welfare of the community in which they reside.

 


Perry-Westgate Memorial Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST RULES

Amount of Scholarship $1000.00

Contest is open to any student entering a 2 or 4 year college under an agricultural, conservation, or environmentally oriented college curriculum.  If there are any questions regarding the curriculum you plan to study, contact the office.  Some examples would be Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering, Aquatic Biology, Soil Sciences, Parks and Recreation, Forest Sciences, Agronomy, Wildlife Biology, etc.

STUDENT MUST BE ENTERING FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE IN CURRENT YEAR.

The contest is open to Wayne County students only.

There is no discrimination to race or sex.

The scholarship is for one payment of $500 the first year of college and one payment of $500 the second year of college.  Payments will be made directly to the school that the winner is planning to attend.  Before the second payment is made the winner will be responsible for submitting a copy of the first year transcript and a confirmation from the college that the student is still enrolled in a qualifying curriculum.

The application is to be completed to the best of the student’s ability.

One letter of reference must be included with the application.  The reference may not be a teacher or family member.

A one page, double-spaced essay describing future goals and objectives must be submitted with the student’s application.

A transcript of the applicant’s educational record must be included.

The school’s guidance counselor or principal must sign the application for the contest.

The judging is completed using the application and material submitted, and how much the activities and information given pertain to the college curriculum that is chosen.

The last day to submit applications is Friday April 5, 2024.
